For more than a decade, Citizens Commerce has been offering a wide variety of personal and business banking services for Franklin County residents.

“We are a small bank with local decision making, which allows us to be flexible to our customers’ needs,” said Frankfort market president Brad Smither.

With roots in the community and more than 26 years of experience, Smither says he can find a solution for just about every issue that may arise.

In addition to the Frankfort location — 108 Sea Hero Road Suite A — there are also offices in Versailles, Nicholasville and, coming in June, Lexington.

Citizens Commerce provides customers with free checking accounts with no monthly fee and special checking accounts for students, with a minimum opening balance of $100.

The bank also offers interest-bearing checking, in which money in the account accumulates interest much like a savings account. However, customers are able to write checks and use a debit card to access the funds. Account holders also receive access to thousands of surcharge-free ATMs and reimbursement of up to $10 per month of out-of-network ATMs.

Those ages 60 and older qualify for free senior checking with perks that include a box of basic checks each year for those with direct deposit, cashier’s checks and paper statements available. Seniors also receive yearly safe deposit box rental at a 50 percent discount.

“All banks basically have the same products, but how the product is delivered, customer service and the knowledge to know what works best for you are key,” he said.

Online banking and the Citizens Commerce mobile banking app makes viewing balances, transaction history, images and statements easy, convenient, 24 hours, seven days a week. Customers can also transfer funds between accounts as well as make loan payments, pay bills and stop payments at their leisure.

With a minimum opening balance of $100 and a limit of six debit transactions per statement cycle, Citizens Commerce savings accounts collect interest on a tiered rate based on balance.

For more serious savers, the Citizens Money Market, with a minimum opening balance of $1,000 and a $20 monthly service fee if the balance dips below $1,000, offers the same benefits of other accounts with a more structured plan.

Citizens Commerce Certificates of Deposit (CDs) and, for those looking toward the golden years, Individual Retirement Accounts (IRAs) also require a $1,000 minimum opening balance and have flexible terms up to 60 months. They also come with a tiered rate system to maximize interest earnings and automatic renewal at maturity. Interest can be compounded or deposited into another account at the bank.

Citizens Commerce also offers a variety of loans for home, auto, boat and RV as well as business services, including checking accounts with merchant services such as remote deposit capture, online banking and courier services.

“We are a local bank with a local board with local decision-makers located right here in central Kentucky,” said Smither, who resides in Frankfort with wife, Lisa Darby.

A father of four and grandfather of one, Smither has local knowledge and expertise to help with banking needs.

“In my spare time (which it seems like I do not have any of at the moment), I enjoy working around the house, traveling and spending time with family,” he added.
